Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) is a global leader in lithium battery manufacturing. As lithium batteries are classified as Class 9 Dangerous Goods, their transportation and loading/unloading processes are subject to rigorous safety requirements. Even the slightest vibration or impact during these operations can lead to severe consequences. To mitigate these risks, the implementation of reliable dock restraints is not just an option but a necessity for their logistics operations.

Challenges and Pain Points

• Stringent Safety Standards: Loading and unloading lithium batteries strictly prohibits vehicle drift or dock separation. Absolute physical restraint is mandatory to prevent accidents.
• Diverse Vehicle Fleet: The transportation of raw materials and finished products involves various types of trucks, including specialized vehicles that lack standard rear impact guards (ICC bars), complicating the selection of warehouse truck restraint systems.
• Environmental Adaptability: The factory environment is complex, requiring equipment to maintain stable performance during prolonged operation.

The Solution: Automatic Wheel Leveler AWL-3200

Considering the dual requirements of safety levels and vehicle compatibility, CATL selected the AWL-3200 Automatic Wheel Leveler. This solution stands out among dock restraints for its versatility and power.

• All-Around Locking: The AWL-3200 secures vehicles by restricting tire rolling, making it independent of the vehicle’s rear structure. This is particularly suitable for the various specialized hazardous chemical transport trucks used by CATL, ensuring reliable restraint for all vehicle types.
• High Holding Force: The device provides powerful holding force (typically exceeding 30,000 lbs), sufficient to handle heavy trucks fully loaded with battery packs and preventing the “creep” phenomenon caused by forklifts entering and exiting the trailer.
• Visual Safety Monitoring: Equipped with a prominent red/green light communication system interlocked with the loading dock door. The system only issues a “Safe” signal when the AWL-3200 confirms the tire is securely locked, eliminating human error from the management process.
